AvleaPlay — Terms of Use

These terms cover the use of the AvleaPlay application and of this website. Installing or using the app means you accept them. They are written to be read, not skimmed — the short version: the app is free, your files stay yours, and what you choose to play is your responsibility.

The app and its price

AvleaPlay is currently free, including every Pro feature. Each installation records a Founder / Early Adopter marker: if Pro ever becomes a paid upgrade for new users, installations carrying the marker keep every Pro feature at no cost, in current and future versions. We announce no future pricing and no dates — if that ever changes, it changes for new users only.

The application's own code is not open source. It is built on open-source components, each credited with its licence in Settings → About → Open-source licenses and in the notices shipped beside the program.

Discs and copy protection — please read this one

AvleaPlay plays DVDs, VIDEO_TS folders and ISO images through LibVLC, which includes the decryption used by every libvlc-based player. Whether playing a copy-protected disc is lawful depends on where you are: some jurisdictions permit it for a disc you own, others prohibit circumvention of technological protection measures regardless of ownership.

That decision is yours, and so is the responsibility for it. Please comply with your local law. AvleaPlay deliberately offers no way to copy a disc: clip export, screenshots of a stream and AI-subtitle extraction are available for ordinary media files only, never for a disc, a VIDEO_TS folder or an ISO.

Clips and screenshots you export

Clip export and screenshots work on ordinary media files, and what you export is a copy of that file's content. Exporting does not give you any right you did not already have: if the source is protected by copyright, so is the clip, and sharing, uploading or publishing it needs the rightsholder's permission exactly as the original would.

The feature exists for the reasons people keep a moment — a note to yourself, a scene you want to find again, something to show someone in the room. What you do beyond that is your responsibility, under the law where you are.

What you play

AvleaPlay opens files, folders, discs and stream addresses that you provide. It does not search for, index, recommend or download content from anywhere. You are responsible for having the right to play what you open, and for the addresses you enter into Open URL.

Music identification and third-party services

• Built-in recognition sends an acoustic fingerprint — integer hashes computed on your device — to our own service. It never sends audio. What comes back is a name, from a catalogue built on the AcoustID database, used under CC BY-SA 3.0.
• AudD is optional and needs an API key of your own, obtained from and priced by AudD under their terms. When you use it, a short audio snippet is sent to them. AvleaPlay is not affiliated with AudD, AcoustID or VideoLAN.
• Neither service is required. Without any of it, the app still recognises music from your own library, on your own machine.

Downloaded models

AI subtitles and genre recognition need a model that is downloaded once, at your request, and verified against a fixed checksum. They then run entirely on your device. The subtitles they produce are machine-generated, are labelled as such, and will contain mistakes — they are an aid, not a transcript of record. Genre recognition returns a ranked guess, not a verdict.

Your side

You are responsible for your own files and for the folders you add to the library. AvleaPlay writes what it remembers into Documents\AvleaPlay and its own app-data folder; both are yours to inspect, back up or delete. Your AudD key, if you add one, is encrypted by Windows and stored locally.

Installs from the Microsoft Store are additionally governed by the Store's own terms.

No warranty

The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, tmnetworks is not liable for damages arising from the use of the app, from data loss, or from decisions taken on the basis of anything it displays. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law grants you and that cannot be excluded by contract.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the date above always reflects the current version, and continued use after a change means acceptance. Greek law governs these terms.
