01 — Watch
All of it local, all of it optional, none of it asking you to sign in.
Two engines
Hardware-accelerated playback for everything modern, and a DVD-capable engine for discs, VIDEO_TS folders and ISO images. If a file stalls or refuses to open, AutoFix hands it to the other engine and carries on from the same second.
Avlea Memory
Playback speed, your preferred audio and subtitle tracks, volume — remembered per series and re-applied to the next episode. Continue Watching with thumbnails, Next Episode with a queue, and your folders grouped into series automatically.
What did they say?
Rewinds a few seconds, slows the picture slightly, lifts the dialogue and switches subtitles on — then puts all of it back once you have caught up. Press it again to go further; the length is yours, from 5 to 30 seconds.
Smart Skip · Natural Break
Opt-in silence skipping and intro detection between episodes. And Natural Break for "I should stop, but not mid-scene": after this episode, at the next chapter, at the next quiet moment, or in N minutes.
AI subtitles
No subtitles at all? whisper.cpp generates them on your own machine, offline, from a model downloaded once and verified by checksum. The result is labelled AI-generated, because it is a machine's best effort.
Clips, frames and glow
A–B loop and clip export to MP4, GIF or PNG. Screenshots. And an ambient glow that bleeds the picture's colours into the bars around it — or blooms from the middle for music, where there is no picture.
02 — Discs
Menus, chapters and navigation — from a disc in the drive, a VIDEO_TS
folder or an ISO image, all opened the same way. Driven with the arrow keys and Enter, the
way DVD menus were designed to be driven.
It just opens
Double-click an ISO, drop a VIDEO_TS folder on the window, or put a disc in the drive. The menu appears, the chapters are on the seek bar, and Backspace always gets you back to the main menu.
Playback only
Clip export, screenshots of a stream and AI-subtitle extraction are deliberately restricted to ordinary files. Whether playing a copy-protected disc is lawful depends on where you are — the terms are plain about that.
03 — Music
Press Identify and an acoustic fingerprint goes out: integer hashes computed on your PC that cannot be turned back into audio. Never the sound itself.
Three tiers, two free
Your own files are matched entirely on your device. Then AvleaPlay's catalogue, built from the open AcoustID database. Only if you add an AudD key of your own does a short snippet ever leave the machine — and only for what the catalogue could not name.
Soundtrack Journal
Each match is kept with the film and the moment it played, openable in Spotify or YouTube, and exportable as an M3U playlist or plain text.
Favourites that survive
Press ♥ and the favourite follows the audio, not the filename: move it to another drive, rename it, retag it — the ♥ is still there. Run Music ID on it once and the ♥ follows the recording itself, so a fresh rip or a better download finds it again. Songs recognised inside a film can be kept straight from the Journal.
04 — Privacy
Not a policy promising restraint — an application with no account system, no analytics and no telemetry in it.
Video does not leave your PC. Not for subtitles, not for genre recognition, not for anything. The AI models come to the file; the file never goes to a server.
Identifying music, downloading a model once, and playing a stream address you typed yourself. That is the complete list, and the privacy policy writes it out in full.
History, library index, thumbnails, journal and favourites live in Documents\AvleaPlay. Open it, back it up, delete it. Uninstalling deliberately leaves it behind so a reinstall finds it again.
05 — Pro
During the launch period every Pro feature is included — AI subtitles, clip export, Music ID, Smart Skip, Natural Break, extended Memory, Playback Doctor — and an installation that has them keeps them forever, in this version and every version after it.
No countdown, no trial that expires, no card. If Pro ever becomes a paid upgrade, it becomes one for new users only.
06 — What's next
For the phone in your hand and for the television across the room. Same player, same posture: your files, your device, nothing reporting back.
Phone & tablet
Your own files, played the way this one plays them — the queue, the memory of how you watch a show, the one-key replay. The parts that are local stay local.
Android TV
A remote is exactly where “What did they say?” earns its keep: rewinding ten seconds and squinting at a subtitle is five presses on a couch. And DVD menus have been driven by a D-pad since 1996 — up, down, left, right, OK.

07 — Questions
No. Video never leaves your PC — not for subtitles, not for genre recognition, not for anything. The only things ever sent are an acoustic fingerprint when you press Identify, and a short audio snippet if you have added your own AudD key.
Yes, with menus, chapters and navigation, through the LibVLC engine it switches to by itself. DVD menus are driven with the arrow keys and Enter.

Neither. AvleaPlay has no accounts of any kind. It works completely offline apart from two things that are network features by nature: identifying music against the catalogue, and downloading a subtitle or genre model once.
MKV, MP4, AVI, MOV, WebM, TS, FLV and more for video; MP3, FLAC, M4A, AAC, OGG, WAV, WMA and Opus for audio; plus DVDs, VIDEO_TS folders, ISO images and network streams.
